“ The food service and atmosphere absolutely five stars waited in line over an hour just before they close the lunch/ breakfast absolutely worth the wait again the atmosphere was phenomenal service great, Terrific food !! absolutely worth every penny in every bite So if you're in Helen, Georgia (especially during Christmas ) like everybody else it's a must go to even if the line is an hour long ,we will do it every time I go to Helen! ”

“ I saw that their outdoor patio was dog friendly on Bringfido.com and was looking forward to having lunch out there. But when I went in to ask them for a table, they said that while it is dog-friendly, you can only eat on the patio if you've purchased items from the bakery. The cafe does not serve food out there and you can't even get a to-go meal from the cafe. I wound up leaving and eating outside at Cowboys and Angels (which I recommend). I did get a slice of the German Chocolate torte to go and it was good. Perhaps their policy is different in their busy season as I visited in February. ”

“ This is a must have for local food. Be forewarned during peak tourism there is a pretty good wait, but it's absolutely worth it. The service is exceptionally friendly and fast and efficient. The ambiance is typical small German town feel as expected. They also have a bakery that has customers continually streaming in for the wonderful selection ”

“ I like to visit Hofer's every time I'm in the area. Partially because my maiden name is Hofer, partially because I come from a very German family and it's hard to find good German food. It's always a bit tricky getting a seat, but not impossible. This visit, we came just after they started seating for lunch around 12:30ish. There was a line to the door and we waited maybe about 45 minutes, 4 adults, 2 kids. I took the kids to the park up the hill while we waited, so it really was no big deal waiting. If you plan to eat here, just know there will be a wait. When we were seated in the very small dining room, we received our drink orders almost immediately. I ordered the sausage sampler which comes with 3 different types of German sausages, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and gravy. It was excellent and such a HUGE portion, I brought the rest home for leftovers the next day. Everyone was very impressed with the portion sizes. The food came out quickly and very hot, which was perfect on a chilly day. I was able to snag the very last of their cherry coffee cakes. If you're able to grab one of those, do it. It's a big coffee cake, and it lasted less than 24 hours in our house. So so sooo good. Overall, another great experience at Hofer's. ”

“ This was the only place we enjoyed eating at in Helen. The other restaurants were a real letdown, but the breakfast here was to die for. They have a bakery and a little shop to look around at and that really added to the experience. It was also nice to sit outside and people watch! ”

“ July 23, 2024 - 4 for lunch Fairly long wait and service a little slow and intermittent. Menu selection and freshness fantastic!! Of course rolls, bread, and baked goods awesome!!! We ordered a variety of the sandwiches: vegetarian, a pastrami, a knockwurst and then a beef or something entre?? All were fresh and perfect! ”

“ Outstanding brunch after church today. Lunch started at 1230 and that was fine with us, gave us an opportunity to check out the bakery to see what we are going to get after brunch. Dusti was our waitress and very helpful with the selections for the day. I had the beef vegetable soup and it was chocked gull of beef and veggies also comes with a very soft pretzel roll which is to die for. Unfortunately they do not make them to sell at the bakery . My wife had the spaetzle soup and enjoyed it. She also had the grilled ham & cheese with kettle chips and a dill pickle and enjoyed it. I had the toasted hot pastrami on rye and it was very good and great pastrami. The chips were not over salty very nice chips. Place has the definite Germany ambiance also had a deli department in the store to get brats, cold cuts and so forth. Will be back that is for sure. Loved it ”
